As a low budget performance intensive device, Samsung’s LE32C530 LCD TV is a very attractive option. As a part of Samsung’s “Series 5” range, this LCD is meant for the budget buyers but still features full HD support, 3 HDMI ports and many multimedia playback options. However, with all the features you get for the low cost, you do miss out on some other aspects like the 100/200 Hz motion clarity, color management controls and the HD TV tuner, but omitting these doesn’t very necessarily affect most consumers, since these didn’t make much of a difference for an average user like me. As Samsung’s Series 5 has given out many great bargains through the years, this one had given me very high expectations.

The TV is very well designed with a glossy black finish throughout. There’s also a small transparent plastic panel at the bottom which gives it a glass like look which complements its black glossy look. A light metal panel is used in the back panel of the TV rather than the usual plastic we see in LCDs, which gives the TV a very high quality finish. The stand has a similar black gloss finish as the rest of the TV and has the usual swivel capacity which is quite standard these days.

As for the connectivity options provided, there are two HDMI ports provided in the back panel with the third and final HDMI at the side. There are the regulation VGA, Component and Composite video inputs in w well organized panel at the back. There is a USB input and also a Common Interface card slot, which covers more than the usual set of connectivity options I need. Still, it’s reassuring to know they’re there if I ever need them.

As for the picture quality and the color reproduction, the LE32C530 performs quite well. The black levels were fairly accurate for an LCD TV and it performed as well as we expected it to. The TV uses the Auto Dimming technology which makes backlight fade when a pure black video signal is sent to the TV. This could at times be distracting to videophiles (like a few of my friends!) but won’t bother casual users much. There is the usual issue of gamma shift with increasing viewing angles but most LCD users have gotten used to facing this by now and won’t rally base their purchasing decision on this alone.

On the whole, in spite of its low cost, the Samsung LE32C530 manages to provide a high picture quality and a good overall package. It is strongly recommended by me to anyone planning to invest into a low budget LCD TV.
